Of Montreal - “Don’t Ask Me to Explain

Everybody knows Of Montreal’s brand of electro-dance, synthpop music. But what most people don’t know is that at one point in time they were a fairly good indie rock band with really good pop sensibilities. That place and time was Athens, Georgia around 1997. Their debut album, Cherry Peel shows little sign of what was to come from this band. Don’t get me wrong… it isn’t straight up, three minute pop ditties but it is enjoyable which is more than can be said for some of their later work. — Dave Koen

while I do still like the synth-poppy progression of this band, I must admit, I too loved their indie-pop rooted output SO much more. it may not be as anthemic or as lyrically convoluted as the band they grew into, but there’s certainly something to be said for straightforwardness.

hey. worked for the halo benders.
